First Time Answers:
We charge by the hour, half day, or full day. We also have three 30 minute specials. You can find the pricing for those by clicking here!
If you reserve 6 hours or less, you will pay a 20% deposit to make an appointment, and pay for what you use. If you book over 6 hours you will pay either a higher deposit or the full amount at booking, and you will pay the whole booked time regardless of what you use. This means if you book 8 hours, you will pay for 8 hours even if you only use 10 minutes. If you book one of our 30 minute specials you will pay 100% at booking to save on credit card processing fees.
When you make an appointment, you are booked from a start time to a stop time (example: from 1pm to 2pm). Your appointment is between the start and stop time, which means we will guarantee you the time between those points. You will not be guaranteed any time after the end time unless you request extra time and it is available.
Every 6 hours of shop time you will be asked to make a payment towards your final invoice.

Sorry, we do not have a paint booth or alignment equipment. Due to environmental and health regulations, painting is not permitted at Stew’s Self Service Garage. AC work is also not available to be done due to environmental regulations. If you need a paint booth contact Pacific Auto Machine @ 425-226-0930, they rent a paint booth in Renton, WA.
This answer is always ‘yes‘. Working on your own car can be fun, satisfying, nice to your wallet, and easy with the right tools, space, and resources. Here at Stew’s Self Service Garage we strive to make sure you have everything you need to succeed with your auto repair be it your first, or countless, time you have worked on a car.
We have all the tools you need to complete a wide variety of projects on your car. We ask that you leave your tools at home so we don’t have any mix-ups. If you have vehicle specific tools for a project, please contact us ahead of time so we will be able to accommodate you!
We provide a 450+ piece tool set with every bay rental. We also keep an assortment of specialty tools available in our tool room.
Tools are just part of what you need to do your repair. You might also want some shop towels, parts, or fluids. We either stock it or will order it so it’s here when you arrive!
We can accommodate just about any time period you need. We understand some projects can take days or even weeks. Maybe you don’t need weeks worth of time, but a few days can be a real possibility. We ask that you contact us through our Contact Page for inquiries about longer rentals.
We understand that sometimes projects don’t go according to plan and take longer than expected. We have several options available such as storing your vehicle inside or outside (some conditions apply) but whatever option you choose must be arranged before closing time.
Due to an increasing number of incidents of customers not heeding the time notices and running well over the 9pm closing time, we had to implement an after-hours penalty. Starting at 9:00pm (per the shop computer’s clock), the penalty is $50 per 15 minutes, always rounding up. This penalty applies to anyone who has not had their box checked by 8:59pm.
For example: still tightening that last bolt at 9pm, the first 15 minute penalty ($50) is applied to your ticket for the time period of 9:00 to 9:14. Still putting your tools away at 9:15, another 15 minute penalty ($50) is applied to your ticket.
How can you avoid this penalty? Here are a few tips:
1.Know how long your work will take and start early enough to finish by 8:45pm – if you’re unsure how long your job will take, we can give you a pretty good estimate before you start.
2.Bring a friend or two to help the job go faster – it’s more fun too!
3.Ask for advice sooner rather than later – when you’ve tried the way the YouTube video said to do it and it’s still not working, don’t waste time retrying the same thing multiple times; ask the shop supervisor for advice, tips, and tricks.
4.Follow the advice to make your work go faster, or avoid mistakes that waste time – all together our shop supervisors have over 100 years of experience, they give good advice.
5.Heed the time notices given by the shop supervisor – accept that 60 minutes worth of work can’t be compressed into the last 15 minutes before closing. Starting at 8:30, if you’re not going to be ‘wheels on’ by 8:45, then plan your alternate ride home, get out of your vehicle what you need to take with you, arrange with us to keep your vehicle inside or outside until you return, and by 8:45 start putting tools away.
Note, this is not an over-time hourly rate – it is applied in addition to the $40 per hour rental rate. It is not an offer to continue working so long as one is willing to pay the penalty. This effectively makes the shop rate $240 per hour, you don’t want to pay to keep us open just for you.
- There is a $10 per night fee to leave your vehicle in the parking lot.
- The first night in the parking lot is free.
- Your vehicle can be left in the parking lot for a maximum of 14 days. To reset the 14 day clock the car must be off the premises for at least 24 hours.
- At the end of 14 days your vehicle will be towed from our lot. The end of 14 days is 7:30pm the 14th day after your vehicle first went into the parking lot.
