Sorry, we do not have a paint booth, or alignment equipment. Both are too expensive of equipment to reasonably be able to recoup our investment on them. Due to environmental and health regulations, painting is not permitted at Stew’s Self Service Garage. AC work is also not available to be done due to environmental regulations.

This answer is always a ‘yes‘. Working on your own car can be fun, satisfying, nice to your wallet, and easy with the right tools, space, and resources. Here at Stew’s Self Service Garage we strive to make sure you have everything you need to succeed with your auto repair be it your first or countless time you have worked on your car.

You can see average savings of 50% or more from what a mechanic would charge. If the repair you plan to do is very labor intensive, the savings are on the higher end as labor can make a repair really expensive, really fast.

When it is 6 hours or less of booked time, you will pay for what you use. Example: You book 6 hours and it takes you 3, you will pay for the 3 hours. If you were to book 8 hours and use 2 hours, we would have you pay for the 8 hours.

Why do we make 6 hours the split? Because after 6 hours it becomes difficult to book reservations as many people request 6 hour slots as they like to do a few jobs at one time. Therefore when you book more than 6 hours and use less, we likely had to turn someone away to accommodate your reservation.

We know your time is valuable, and we believe spending your time at Stew’s Self Service Garage will be a great value. Would you like to make $80+ an hour? Well that’s what you’re going to be paying your mechanic for their time, so why not take at least half of that money, put it back into your pocket, and pay yourself!

We know that everyone is extremely busy, as we are too. We are only closed on Wednesdays, otherwise we are open 9AM to 9PM every other day so you can find a time that’s convenient for you – especially compared to having a mechanic work on your car.

For example: First you take your car to the mechanic, wait in line for your turn to explain the problem, sit around and wait for them to do a diagnosis (or get a rental and have to deal with that while you wait for them to get to your car). Once they have diagnosed your car’s problem, if you haven’t been sitting waiting all this time, they call you (interrupting whatever you’re doing at the time) to explain everything that’s wrong and go over the associated costs.

If you approve the repair they are FINALLY going to start working on your car! You are still waiting to get your car back, driving a rental car (maybe even paying for it), or having to use some other form of transportation  After all this time goes by your mechanic calls (interrupting again) and you can then go, stand in line again to get your car and listen to them tell you how it’s all fixed and you can be on your way. This time (and money) adds up! Wouldn’t your rather fix your car yourself at Stew’s Self Service Garage saving time and money?

We’ve been there too! Everyone has, and we want to help you out with this big step that most people aren’t willing to take. We offer free expert advice to anyone who rents a bay from us. We also provide access to AllData online auto repair manuals free with each bay rental.

You must be at least 18 or have a parent or guardian present, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle registration for first time garage use.

Student IDs are not forms of valid identification.

You must be at least 13 and be with a parent or guardian, to go into the shop area.

For the safety of your children and others, children under 13 years old should not be brought to Stew’s Self Service Garage.

We have all the tools you need to complete a wide variety of projects on your car. We ask that you leave your tools at home so we don’t have any mix-ups. If you have vehicle specific tools for a project, please contact us ahead of time so we will be able to accommodate you!

We provide a 450+ piece tool set with every space rental, including the bays without a lift. We also keep an assortment of specialty tools available.

Tools are just part of what you need to do your repair. You might also wants some shop towels, parts, or fluids. We either stock it or will order it so it’s here when you arrive!

This is a big question to ask yourself when you are getting ready to rent a bay. We can’t tell you exactly how much time you will need for the job, but we can help you figure that out. When you call for a reservation, we can look at our repair resources to search the job you are doing and get a better idea of the time it takes. If you have never done the job before we suggest giving yourself more time to make sure you aren’t rushed.

You will pay a deposit for any advance booked reservation. The deposit holds your reservation for you. If you cancel your reservation at any time, your deposit is forfeit. 

We do however allow 1 reschedule per deposit as long as it is made 24 hours in advance of your reservation. 

Like the saying goes, the more the merrier! We want you to bring friends with you, it makes working on your car much more enjoyable! We do ask that you limit to just two friends, for a total of no more than 3 people per bay. This prevents bumping elbows within the shop. If you need more help for specific jobs, feel free to get in touch with us and we can accommodate you as needed.

We do require your friends to be at least 18 or have a parent or guardian, and a government issued ID (Valid: passport, driver’s license, or a state ID card, military ID. Invalid: school issued ID.)

There is a first time for everything!  We know most people will have never been to a business similar to ours so we do our best to make it easy for you.  To help you stay safe, there will be some paperwork and training on your first visit so please allow extra time to take care of that. We do require everyone in your group to sign a customer agreement and liability waiver before you can enter the garage.  We strongly urge you to show up at least 15-20 minutes before your scheduled rental. We start the clock on your rental, at the start of your scheduled time, we would hate to have you spending it signing papers.  We keep your paper work on file so at future visits you can just check in and get working on your car quickly and efficiently!

We can accommodate just about any time period you need. We understand some projects can take days or even weeks. Maybe you don’t need weeks worth of time, but a few days can be a real possibility. We ask that you contact us through our Contact Page for inquiries about longer rentals.

We do not require reservations, we strongly recommend them however. If you do not have a reservation, you may drop in and see if there is any availability. You may be limited to the type of bay you will be in, and may have time constraints as well.

We understand that sometimes projects don’t go according to plan and take longer than expected.  We have several options available such as storing your vehicle inside or outside (some conditions apply) but whatever option you choose must be arranged before closing time.

Due to an increasing number of incidents of customers not heeding the time notices and running well over the 9pm closing time, we had to implement an after-hours penalty. Starting at 9:00pm (per the shop computer’s clock), the penalty is $50 per 15 minutes, always rounding up. This penalty applies to anyone who has not had their box checked by 8:59pm.

For example: still tightening that last bolt at 9pm, the first 15 minute penalty ($50) is applied to your ticket for the time period of 9:00 to 9:14. Still putting your tools away at 9:15, another 15 minute penalty ($50) is applied to your ticket.

How can you avoid this penalty? Here are a few tips:

1.Know how long your work will take and start early enough to finish by 8:45pm – if you’re unsure how long your job will take, we can give you a pretty good estimate before you start

2.Bring a friend or two to help the job go faster – it’s more fun too!

3.Ask for advice sooner rather than later – when you’ve tried the way the YouTube video said to do it and it’s still not working, don’t waste time retrying the same thing multiple times; ask the shop supervisor for advice, tips, and tricks

4.Follow the advice to make your work go faster, or avoid mistakes that waste time – all together our shop supervisors have around 100 years of experience, they give good advice

5.Heed the time notices given by the shop supervisor – accept that 60 minutes worth of work can’t be compressed into the last 15 minutes before closing. Starting at 8:30, if you’re not going to be ‘wheels on’ by 8:45, then plan your alternate ride home, get out of your vehicle what you need to take with you, arrange with us to keep your vehicle inside or outside until you return, and by 8:45 start putting tools away.

Note, this is not an over-time hourly rate – it is applied in addition to the $40 per hour rental rate. It is not an offer to continue working so long as one is willing to pay the penalty.
